Softball team starts the new year with high ranking in preseason coaches poll and four new signees for next season
The Georgia Highlands softball team has started its new season under the guidance of Coach Melissa Wood with four new signees for next season. The program is entering its third year and is already being predicted as the number one team to beat in the GCAA conference pre-season coaches poll.
The 2016 NJCAA DI Softball Season Preview Series - District Predictions brought good news for the team, placing them in the number one spot, which is the Chargers’ highest pre-season ranking to date.
“We are humbled to have the coaches vote in the pre-season polls,” Coach Wood said, “but we have to earn a trip to Utah. Every one of our region opponents wants to make it to the show."
The Chargers will see two new pitchers join the program next season. Evan Hall comes from Donalsonville, GA, where she will graduate from Seminole County High School. Fellow new pitcher Micayla McCoy is travelling from Sylva, NC, where she will graduate from Smoky Mountain High School.
Outfielder Mackenzy McFarland joins GHC from Winder-Barrow High School in Winder, GA. And Shay Wooten rounds out the new signees from Gorden Lee High School in Chickamauga, GA.
