GHC mourns the loss of founding President Emeritus Dr David B McCorkle
Dear Georgia Highlands College Community Members,
I was saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. David McCorkle, President Emeritus, of GHC, and felt it important to notify you as soon as possible.
As many of you know, Dr. McCorkle was the founding president of this institution, and guided the college from inception through many successes until his retirement in 1991.
Words cannot fully express my gratitude for the incredible vision and leadership Dr. McCorkle provided, creating the legacy we continue at Georgia Highlands College today. He felt strongly that students in our communities deserved access to affordable excellence in higher education, and almost fifty years later we still carry his work forward.
At this time, I ask that your thoughts and prayers be with the family and friends of Dr. McCorkle. Daniel's Funeral Home in Rome, GA is in charge of the arrangements, and the following links provides additional information about Dr. McCorkle as well as updating information as it becomes available:
At a later and more appropriate time, we will reach out to the McCorkle family to discuss an on-campus remembrance service honoring the work and legacy of Dr. McCorkle.
