Eventful September leading up to Inauguration Installation Ceremony unveiled

In honor of the Inauguration Installation Ceremony for Georgia Highlands College’s fourth president Donald J. Green, Ed.D., on September 18 at 10 a.m. on the Rome campus, GHC is planning a series of events leading up to the ceremony.

President Green will be holding open forums with students at each campus during the month of September (Douglasville on Sept. 1, Paulding on Sept. 8, Floyd on Sept. 21, Cartersville on Sept. 22, and Marietta on Sept. 24). Students are invited to meet with President Green and share in an open dialogue about GHC.

On Sept. 8, the GHC Library will be hosting an event called “Embracing the Legacy” on the Rome campus and then again Sept. 10 on the Cartersville campus. This roundtable discussion will bring members of the community and faculty/staff from GHC’s past and present together for the first time to discuss and share stories about the 45-year-old college.

An all-day Student Leadership Conference has also been scheduled for Sept. 19 that will feature Ryan Penneau, who is described as a speaker on a mission to “put the responsibility of education and success back in the hands of STUDENTS through energizing curriculum and delivery…”

All throughout September, GHC will also be holding a “Beyond the Pages” common read program that is an initiative of the Office of Academic Affairs and is designed to engage the college community in a unified intellectual activity. Many book titles have been selected and faculty members will lead various common read programs.

Several entertainers will also be featured at student events throughout September, including comedian Adam Grabowski—a Campus Activity Magazine “Entertainer of the Year” who has performed in 45 states and at over 450 colleges across the country—and singer-songwriter Christen Cole—a rising Nashville star who has worked with a number of artists and producers since 2007.

All of these events will culminate with the Inauguration Installation Ceremony on September 18 at 10AM on the Rome campus and the Highlands Inauguration Gala that will take place that night in President Green’s honor at 6:30PM on the Cartersville campus.

Chancellor of the University System of Georgia Hank Huckaby will officially install President Green as the fourth president of Georgia Highlands College during the investiture portion of the inauguration ceremony. President Green will have been at the college for a full year, having started on September 8, 2014.

Retired Regent Willis Potts will be presiding over the ceremony, and Regent Neil Pruitt will bring greetings from the Board of Regents.

President Green holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University, a Masters of Labor and Human Resource Management from Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Public Administration from Michigan State University. He is blessed with a wife and three children and is in the process of moving his family to Northwest Georgia.

A reception will follow the inauguration ceremony. Food and drinks will be provided. An RSVP is requested, but the ceremony is free and open to the public. Additionally, a link will be posted at inauguration.highlands.edu for those who would like to view the ceremony via livestream.

The special Highlands Inauguration Gala will take place that night on the Cartersville campus.

This fun evening of dining, dancing, and supporting the “blue and orange” will honor President Green with a focus on raising money for much-needed student scholarships.

Special musical guest Laughlin will be performing live. The Georgia band has had several successful original songs, has been nominated for a Georgia Music Award and for Artist of the Year at the Georgia Country Music Awards, and has performed in concerts with Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, and Carrie Underwood.

Complimentary valet parking will also be provided for the gala.

Tickets for the gala are $100. Proceeds from this event will support Georgia Highlands College scholarships.

All events will center on the ceremony and gala theme: Embracing the Legacy. Focused on the Future.
