Date set for Inauguration Installation Ceremony and the Highlands Inauguration Gala

Georgia Highlands College will officially hold an Inauguration Installation Ceremony for its fourth president Donald J. Green, Ed.D., on September 18 at 10AM on the Rome campus. The Highlands Inauguration Gala will also take place that night in his honor at 6:30PM on the Cartersville campus.

Chancellor of the University System of Georgia Hank Huckaby will officially install President Green as the fourth president of Georgia Highlands College during the investiture portion of the inauguration ceremony. President Green will have been at the college for a full year, having started on September 8, 2014.

Retired Regent Willis Potts will be presiding over the ceremony, and Regent Neil Pruitt will bring greetings from the Board of Regents.

President Green holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University, a Masters of Labor and Human Resource Management from Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Public Administration from Michigan State University.  He is blessed with a wife and three children and is in the process of moving his family to Northwest Georgia.

A reception will follow the inauguration ceremony. Food and drinks will be provided. An RSVP is requested, but the ceremony is free and open to the public. Additionally, a link will be posted at inauguration.highlands.edu for those who would like to view the ceremony via livestream.

The special Highlands Inauguration Gala will take place that night on the Cartersville campus.

This fun evening of dining, dancing, and supporting the “blue and orange” will honor President Green with a focus on raising money for much-needed student scholarships.

Special musical guest Laughlin will be performing live. The Georgia band has had several successful original songs, has been nominated for a Georgia Music Award and for Artist of the Year at the Georgia Country Music Awards, and has performed in concerts with Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, and Carrie Underwood.

Complimentary valet parking will also be provided for the gala.

Tickets for the gala are $100. Proceeds from this event will support Georgia Highlands College scholarships.

Other special events throughout September will also take place in conjunction with the ceremony. The events will involve students, academics, and communities around GHC, including Rome, Cartersville, Marietta, Dallas, and Douglasville.

All events will center on the ceremony and gala theme: Embracing the Legacy. Focused on the Future.

For example, the GHC Libraries will be hosting a special event called “Embracing the Legacy,” where members of the community and faculty/staff from GHC’s past and present will have a roundtable discussion and share stories about the 45-year-old college.
