GHC alum named Rome News Tribune sports editor

AS SEEN IN THE ROME NEWS-TRIBUNE:

Jeremy Stewart, who has spent the last decade covering both news and sports in Northwest Georgia, has been named sports editor of the Rome News-Tribune.

“This opportunity brings me back to sports and I couldn’t be more excited about it,” Stewart said. “Football season is right around the corner, softball teams will be hitting the diamond soon, and I can’t wait to bring those stories and more to our readers.”

Otis M. Raybon Jr., publisher of the Rome News-Tribune, said Stewart will carry on the newspaper’s tradition of covering a spectrum of local sports.

“Jeremy will do a good job working with our weekly sports editors, and will continue with our focus on local prep, youth and college sports,” Raybon said.

Born in Rome, Stewart grew up in Rockmart and graduated from Rockmart High School with honors.

He graduated from Floyd College, now Georgia Highlands, in 2002 and landed the role of sports writer at his hometown newspaper, The Rockmart Journal, in 2003. He later became sports editor of that publication.

He then took a position in the sports department at the Rome News-Tribune. He has been a news reporter for the newspaper since August 2012, covering city government.

“Jeremy’s talent as a news reporter and as a sports writer give him a unique perspective as our new sports editor and I am thrilled for him,” said Managing Editor Mike Colombo. “His work ethic is outstanding and his down-home friendliness will be evident to the sports community.”
