Softball team welcomes new assistant coach

The Chargers Softball Team would like to welcome Ashlen Ayers (Kennewick, WA) to the coaching staff for the 2015-2016 softball season. Ashlen comes to Georgia Highlands after finishing her senior year with NCAA DII Newberry College in South Carolina.

In 2015, Ashlen finished second on the team in batting average while hitting 0.365 with ten doubles and one HR as a lefty power-slapper. She led the team in runs (38) and stolen bases (20) while only making three errors in 73 attempts in the outfield. Ayers has junior college experience playing for Columbia Basin Community College in Washington and North Idaho College while Head Coach Melissa Wood was an assistant in 2011.

Coach Wood: "Ashlen will be a great addition to the staff because of her contagious attitude, intensity, and work ethic. As a former player of mine, she understands and endorses the time commitment and effort I demand of our athletes and coaches. She will jump in and take over our outfielders, slappers, and base runners as well as expand our recruiting efforts on the west coast."

Ashlen: "I am happy to accept the position of assistant softball coach for Georgia Highlands College and am grateful to continue to be a part of the game that stole my heart seventeen years ago. Thanks to everyone that has supported me and helped my dreams come true."

Ayers will start her role as assistant coach in August of 2015 where she will join Coach Wood and Coach Chupp in welcoming seven returners and seventeen incoming freshman to the 2015-2016 softball season.
