Chargers move into the Final Four

The Chargers playing their third game in three days fought off the home crowd of 7,600 Blue Dragon fans to post a 64-59 victory to send the Georgia Highlands College Chargers to the NJCAA National Basketball Championship Final Four!

The Chargers opened up the game with a quick three by sophomore Montrel Goldston but at the 9:00minute mark Hutchinson led 14-9. Paris Ballinger once again came off the bench and provided another spark  scoring 5 consecutive points that gave the Chargers a 23-20 lead with 2:13 left in the half. The Chargers led 25-23 at the half.

550b8a44a5889.imageGHC big man sophomore Donavan Harris had three fouls at the half and with just 9 seconds into the second half he received his fourth foul. Both Goldston and Harris had limited playing time due to the fouls. Harris fouled out at the 7:36mark of the second half. The Chargers led 49-45 on Doneil Dean’s floater in the lane. Montrel Goldston hit a short jumper with 3:26 remaining to extend led to 54-47. However the Blue Dragons had one more run left and cut the led to 3, 62-59 with 59 seconds left. GHC then continued their fine night at the free throw line and secured the win and trip to the Final Four 64-59.

GHC was 17/19 from the free throw line , and once again the high pressure defense forced Hutchinson to 23 turnovers. GHC also had 33 points off the bench compared to 10 for Hutchinson.

The Chargers once again was led by two North Carolina natives Montrel Goldston with 16 points and Terrance Thompson’s double / double 13 points and 15 rebounds. Ty Toney had 15 points and 6 rebounds, and Doniel Dean had 11.

GHC heads to the Final Four to take on #2 Northwest Florida at 9:00pm Eastern Time tonight (March 20).
