GHC welcomes new Chief of Police David Horace
David Horace has been named Georgia Highlands College’s new chief of police. Horace will be overseeing GHC’s security/police force at all five of its campuses. From 1990 through 1998, Horace was a Petty Officer Third Class in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. He has worked in law enforcement for 19 years, beginning his career at Georgia State University (Atlanta, GA), where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Horace has since served as Major/Assistant Chief of Police and later Chief of Police at Columbus State University (Columbus, Georgia). Most recently, Horace served as the Major/Acting Chief of Police at Johnson C. Smith University (Charlotte, NC).
Horace has been or is currently affiliated with the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, GACLEA (Georgia Campus Law Enforcement Association), IACLEA (International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Association), Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and the HBCU-LEEA (Historically Black Colleges and Universities Law Enforcement Executives).
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, a Masters in Public Administration and a Masters in Divinity. He completed the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Command College in 2002.
