Student life coordinator recognized at national conference
Georgia Highlands College’s Student Life Coordinator Lyric Sprinkle was recognized by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) at their annual national convention in Miami, Florida.
Sprinkle, the student life coordinator at GHC’s Douglasville and Paulding sites, was the recipient of the Outstanding New Professional Award, named after Roger B. Winston. The award was presented to her by the Georgia College Personnel Association (GCPA), the Georgia chapter of the ACPA.
“I am grateful to have received the award,” Sprinkle said. “I feel honored to have been nominated and then recognized for the work and effort I have put into the state organization.”
The award is presented to a GCPA member who is currently employed in the student affairs profession, who has six or fewer years of full-time experience in the field and who has demonstrated service in leadership, research, innovative programs and other professional activities.
Sprinkle was anonymously recommended for the award.
Her recommender stated that she is “a vital member of the GCPA family,” and that they have “witnessed [her] work countless hours on multiple GCPA conferences and serve as a strong contributor during GCPA board meetings, serving in a multitude of leadership roles over the past several years.”
The nominator also stated: “I have never given this individual a task in which she could not and did not accomplish. I continually put more on her because I know she will excel at anything and everything… I often question myself: could I clone her?”
The Outstanding New Professional Award is named in honor of Winston for his outstanding contributions to the state and to the profession. Winston is Professor Emeritus at the University Georgia in the College of Education. Winston has been recognized by NACADA, ACPA and SACSA.
The ACPA national convention sees approximately 4,000 members and guests attend annually. Highlights include: distinguished speakers such as Van Jones and Lisa Ling (2012), Cory Booker and Morris Dees (2011), John Quinones (2010), Greg Mortenson and Marian Wright Edelman (2009), Nikki Giovannni and Carol Gilligan (2008); almost 400 educational sessions; and over 9,400 scheduled professional job interviews for nearly 900 job postings (2009).
