Georgia Highlands College recognizes outstanding faculty and staff members
Georgia Highlands’ greatest asset is its faculty and staff. At the recent annual in-service meeting, several employees were recognized for their contributions during the 2013-2014 academic year.
The 2014 awards and recipients were:
Outstanding Administrator Award – Elijah Scott (photo included)
This award is designed for administrators who consistently project a positive image and who serve the college above and beyond the call of duty. This award recognizes an administrator who actively contributes to the success of the college and his or her staff. Scott serves as the Director of Libraries and is in his 5th year at GHC.
Vivian Benton Award – Joannie Yarbrough (photo included)
This award is designed for staff members who consistently project a positive image and who serve the college above and beyond the call of duty. This award recognizes a staff member who actively contributes to the success of the college. Yarbrough enters her 20th year at GHC as the executive assistant to the president.
Community Involvement Award (Staff) – Sherri Beidick
This award is designed to recognize individuals who significantly impact our community. This award recognizes a staff member who demonstrates a passion for making a difference by sharing their spirit, positive attitude and time with others. Beidick has been at GHC for 15 years and serves as the Assistant Director of Admissions/Registrar.
Community Involvement Award (Faculty) – Scott Akemon
This award is designed to recognize individuals who significantly impact our community. This award recognizes a faculty member who demonstrates a passion for making a difference by sharing their spirit, positive attitude and time with others. Akemon is an assistant professor of history and political science and has been at GHC for 9 years.
Professional Achievement Award
This award is designed to recognize individuals who have taken the initiative to better themselves through professional development. This award recognizes individuals who have completed a degree or certificate program within the past year.
Sherri Beidick – completion of Master’s degree in higher education administration from Georgia Southern University
Maria Lauro - completion of Master’s degree in higher education administration from Georgia Southern University
Charlene Graham – completion of Master’s degree in higher education administration from Georgia Southern University
