Atlanta Area Bibliographic Instruction Group to hold 13th annual conference at GHC
Presented by the Atlanta Area Bibliographic Instruction Group, the 13th annual AABIG conference will be held Friday, June 20 at the Georgia Highlands College Cartersville Campus. Previous AABIG Conferences have been held at Georgia State University, The University of West Georgia, Emory University, and UGA, so it’s A BIG deal to host this conference at GHC!
The theme of this year’s conference is “Leaving the lecture behind: active learning in and out of the classroom.” Librarians, like other educators, have been inundated with second hand theory, research, and buzzwords suggesting alternatives to the "straight lecture" in the design of our teaching and learning experiences. Whether they are presenting to students, to colleagues, or to administrators, theory is of little use unless it is applied in creative, meaningful, and appropriate ways.
About 175 participants are expected to attend the conference at GHC this year.
The Atlanta Area Bibliographic Instruction Group (AABIG or BIG) began in the early 1980s as an informal way for instruction librarians from academic, K-12, public, and special libraries in the greater Atlanta area to share ideas and discuss common issues about bibliographic instruction. A conference is held annually to discuss best practices in teaching information literacy.
