Lady Chargers Gain National Ranking
Lady Chargers Beat #8-Ranked Walters State
Over the Thanksgiving weekend the Lady Chargers basketball team continued to make GHC history. In a tournament held at Georgia Perimeter College, the women's team beat Walters State College of Tennessee, a team that is ranked eighth nationally. The final score was 55-53. After a hard-fought first half , the Lady Chargers trailed 32-23. In the second half, the team's' defensive effort was led by Shakierya McClendon, resulting in five steals. They also presented a balanced offensive attack led by McClendon's 15, Manon Cherubin'si 15, Gabrielle Kendall's nine and Shan'Taja Latimore's eight points.
Earlier in the tournament, the women beat Lawson State, 77-70. The Lady Chargers were led by leading scorer Seandre Lee with 17 points, followed by Manon Cherubini with 13, Amber Curtis with 12 and Gabrielle Kendall with 11.
The team has done so well that it is now nationally ranked 21st by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Pretty impressive for year one of an athletic program.
The Chargers and Lady Chargers take to the court again on Monday, Nov. 26 in a match-up with the Lions of East Mississippi. Women's tip-off begins at 5 p.m., the men's at 7.
