Chargers Fall to Central Georgia
Women Continue Winning Streak
Men Lose, 95-81; Women Win, 71-69
Both men's and women's basketball teams took to the court on Saturday, Nov. 10 for the first game of the Georgia College Athletic Association official season. The men fought hard, but fell to the Central Georgia Technical College Cougar's strong defense, 95-81.
The women won 71-69 against the Cougars in a hard-fought squeaker that was very competitive. While the Lady Chargers held the lead throughout the game, the Lady Cougars continued to score within a few points of them. During the last minutes of the game, the Lady Cougars scored a three-point basket, bringing the score to a mere two-point lead and final score for the Charger team.
The next games for the Chargers are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16 and 17 in Niceville, Florida, when they play in the Northwest Florida Tourney. The Lady Chargers next play South Georgia Technical College on Tuesday, Nove. 20. SGTC was the home of Coach Brandan Harrell, who came to GHC this year to coach the women's team. He also brought a couple of players from South Georgia with him, so this game will establish a new rivalry between the two institutions.
The Boy Scouts presented colors before the men's game. At halftime, GHC honored Janet Cherobon-Bawcom, a GHC nursing graduate who ran the 10,000-meter race during the 2012 summer Olympic games in London.
